I'm curious, what does the +number mean after the weapon damage amount?

For example, a weapon might have a 4-24 +5 damage value. I understand that the 4-24 is the damage range, but what is the +5 figure? I assumed that it meant that you get a damage result between 4 and 24 hitpoints, and then add five to that total to determine total damage hit on the enemy. But then I got to thinking, why wouldn't the weapon simply be listed as 9-29? I mean there's no difference between the two, so why pull the +5 outside unless there is something special about the +5 that I don't understand.

Then I got to thinking, does it mean that the +5 always makes it through the enemy armor, no matter what its rating?

(For pen and paper games, I understand that the convention is to list damage, for example, as 4d +5. In the pen-and-paper case it makes sense, because someone is going to roll dice to determine damage, but dice don't apply here.)

It's simply displayed with pen and paper RPG style.
So the +5 damage means that the weapon will deal from 4 to 24 damage + 5.

Hi. May I suggest that you change that range just to plain numbers if that "outside" number has no further siginficance. In pen & paper games it is used to make damage rating more precise because you don't have that much different dices.

Well it's been deeply implemented already and not really worth changing even if it was better when changed. I could make a new feature in that time. Wink
